Having a dog around a small helpless baby is a situation that can cause concern for some people, especially when it comes to certain dog breeds with a reputation for being “aggressive”.
Probably top of this category is pit bull dogs as they are often viewed as unpredictable and sometimes dangerous.
But one California mom has her pet pit bull to thank for saving her and her baby’s lives.
Mom Latana Chai says baby Masailah and their pet pit bull, Sasha, were born just days apart—and have been inseparable ever since. They share everything, from a bed to even bath time.
But their special bond would be put to the ultimate test when a fire suddenly broke out in a neighbor’s home.
It was just after midnight on a Saturday when Latana noticed Sasha acting unusually frantic.
“I heard a loud bang and thought, ‘What’s going on?’ Then I heard Sasha crying and scratching at the door. As soon as I opened it, she rushed in, barking nonstop,” Latana recalled, according to Kare 11.
Pit Bull Found in Baby’s Room, Pulling Her to Safety
When Latana opened the door for Sasha, the pit bull didn’t hesitate—she sprinted straight to baby Masailah’s room. That’s when Latana noticed black smoke creeping from the ceiling—a fire from the neighbor’s home had started to spread into theirs.
Rushing in, Latana found Sasha gripping Masailah by the diaper, gently dragging her away from danger.
The family credits Sasha’s quick instincts and warning barks for saving their lives.

Unfortunately, many believe that pit bulls are still only aggressive fighting dogs.
