New Trump approval ratings reveal the shocking amount of people who want him to run for a third term

President Trump has long been teasing the idea of him running for office again

While it’s currently impossible for someone to run for office for a third term, Trump has been teasing the idea ever since he became president again in January.

As it stands, America’s 22nd Amendment prohibits someone from running for more than two terms in office; but US Representative Andy Ogles wants this changed.

Instead, Ogles has suggested that the law reads: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

The argument goes that since there was a break between Donald Trump’s first and second presidencies, he should be eligible to run for a second consecutive term.

Figures like Trump and Rep. Andy Ogles have voiced support for the idea of Trump remaining in office through 2032—but whether the American public shares that enthusiasm has been far less certain.

However, the release of Trump’s latest approval ratings may shed some light on public sentiment.

According to new data from the Pew Research Center, only 40% of respondents currently approve of Trump’s job performance—down seven points from February.

Wednesday, April 30, will mark the 100th day of Trump’s return to the presidency.

People were also asked about their opinions on President Trump’s controversial tariff hikes, which have sparked turbulence in global stock markets in recent weeks. The response was overwhelmingly negative, with 59% of respondents expressing disapproval of the increases.

In a separate poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos, participants were asked whether Trump should run for a third term.

“Three-quarters of respondents said Trump should not run for a third term a goal Trump has publicly expressed interest in, although the U.S. Constitution prevents him from doing so,” Reuters reported.

Interestingly, a majority of Republican respondents 53% also opposed Trump seeking a third term.

While Trump and some of his closest allies are eager for him to run again, the broader American public doesn’t seem as supportive.
