Little Gracelyn Vick disappeared on Sunday afternoon in the town of Saucier.
According to her family, she had gone outside around noon to play in the yard — but never came back.
Many rumors circulating online
As hours passed without any sign of her, her family contacted authorities. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi launched an urgent search effort that lasted approximately six hours.
Nearby law enforcement agencies, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, helicopters, drones and around 40 local volunteers joined in to help look for Gracelynn.
Tragically, her body was located later that day near the family’s property.
Heartbreak in Saucier: 6-Year-Old Gracelynn Vick Found Dead Near Her Home
Tragedy has struck the small community of Saucier, Mississippi, as investigators continue to search for answers in the heartbreaking death of 6-year-old Gracelynn Vick.
Over the weekend, deputies secured a section of the family’s property — including a swing set and livestock area — as crime scene technicians worked late into the evening, collecting evidence and documenting the scene. According to WLOX, Gracelynn’s body was removed from the property around 8 p.m.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Sheriff Matt Haley addressed growing speculation online during a press briefing Monday. “It’s still early in the investigation,” he said. “No one has been arrested, and we cannot yet say if foul play was involved.”
An autopsy is scheduled at the state crime lab in Biloxi to determine Gracelynn’s cause of death, The Clarion-Ledger reports.
A Mother’s Unimaginable Grief
Gracelynn’s death is the third tragic loss for her mother, Vicky Lynn (Wedgeworth) Hutcherson, in recent years.
In March 2024, Gracelynn’s 13-year-old stepsister, Victoria Hutcherson, died in a horrific crash on U.S. 49 when the minivan she was riding in collided with a dump truck while crossing multiple lanes of traffic. Victoria, a student at West Wortham Elementary, was remembered as a loving big sister who fiercely protected her siblings.
And back in July 2021, the family lost 18-year-old Larry Hart Gracelynn’s brother to a medical condition.
Now, the community is rallying around the grieving family. Grief counselors have been brought into Saucier Elementary to help students cope with the devastating news. Meanwhile, heartfelt messages and prayers continue to pour in on social media.
