Brutal Netflix Movie Dubbed ‘John Wick Of Fighting Nazis’ Branded A ‘Masterpiece’

A brutally gory film dubbed the ‘John Wick of fighting Nazis’ has been branded a ‘masterpiece.’

There’s been a re-emergence of top-quality action movies, from the continuation of the Mission Impossible and James Bond franchises to new originals such as Atomic Blonde and Bullet Train.

But arguably, the most impactful action of the last decade is the John Wick series, acclaimed for its style and action sequences.

Now people are praising the studio behind the Keanu Reeves-led franchise over another action movie, which has just hit Netflix.

“It’s a more important WWII film than Oppenheimer,” insists another.

Critics have been captivated by the film, with The Spectator’s Deborah Ross praising its craftsmanship:

“It is handsomely filmed, with a suitably menacing score, and moves briskly from one set-piece to the next.”

She added, “I may recover one day, but I haven’t as of yet.”

Meanwhile, Cath Clark of The Guardian describes it as “an extravagantly violent and cheerfully entertaining action film from Finland.” She highlights director Jalmari Helander’s approach, calling it “a comedy of deaths—a lavish, grisly feast of Nazis meeting their maker in outrageous and wildly silly ways that had the audience I watched it with shrieking with laughter.”

Released in 2023, the film grossed $13 million at the box office on a $6 million budget.

It also boasts an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 6.9/10 on IMDb.

Adding to its accolades, the film swept multiple awards at Catalonia’s Sitges International Film Festival, winning Best Film, Best Music, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor for lead star Jorma Tommila.

Sisu follows an aging recluse named Aatami (Jorma Tommila) during the final days of WWII in Finland as he embarks on a treacherous 500-mile journey to deposit his hard-earned gold.

But his path to riches takes a brutal turn when a group of Nazis steals his treasure—only to realize they’ve crossed the wrong man. Aatami, a former commando, is far more than just a miner, and he sets out on a relentless, blood-soaked quest for vengeance.

The film has sparked intriguing fan theories, with one viewer speculating about a potential connection between Sisu and John Wick:

“If they don’t tie this in as a prequel or origin story for John Wick’s family, they are missing out for sure! Lionsgate should make Aatami the grandfather and show how John’s family got involved in the hitman/revenge universe.”

Sisu is available to watch on Apple TV, Prime Video, AMC, Google Play, Microsoft, ROW8, Vudu, YouTube, and now, Netflix.
